Ms. E. Rockman
Ms. Elzabe Rockman is the former Director-General of the Department of the Premier. She was appointed MEC for the Department of Treasury during March 2013. Having matriculated from the Sentraal High School in Bloemfontein in 1984, she pursued her studies at the University of the Free State and completed the BA (ED) Languages and BA (Hons) English degrees. In the early-nineties, she started her career as the editor of The Voice, a Bloemfontein-based community newspaper and was involved with the Transformation Action Group and the local chapter of the End Conscription Campaign (ECC). She held various positions at ANC branch level and also served as an additional member to the Regional Executive Committee of the former Southern Free State region of the ANC. In 1993, she was appointed as the elections administrator of the ANC Southern Free State region prior to the 1994 general elections. During this time, she participated in an ANC-facilitated training programme on parliamentary management in Zimbabwe and Canada and was also an observer to the general elections in Malawi in 1994. She was appointed as the first Secretary to the Free State Legislature following the 1994 general elections. In recognition of the need to facilitate and promote inter-legislature cooperation, she became one of the convening Secretaries of the Secretaries Association of the Legislatures of South Africa (SALSA). She also served as the treasurer of the Executive Committee and the designated Secretary responsible for Finance and Information Technology of SALSA. The Gauteng and Free State Legislatures established a Joint Provident Fund and she served as a member of the Board of Directors. The Director General serves on the Council of the Central University of Technology (CUT) and is currently serving a second term as the Chairperson of the Audit Committee of the Mangaung Local Municipality and CENTLEC. |
