Teen Suicide Prevention Week

Teen Suicide Prevention Week is observed annually in South Africa, and this year it runs from 11 February 2024 – 18 February 2024. The week serves as a critical reminder of the importance of addressing the mental health challenges faced by South African youth. Teen suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people aged 15–24 in South Africa, following car accidents and homicide. Alarmingly, 9% of all teen deaths in the country are attributed to suicide.

Join South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG ) on Wednesday, 12 February, at 6:30pm for a free webinar on Zoom and Facebook Live: “Breaking the Silence: How to Talk, Listen, and Support a Teen Through Tough Times.” This session will explore how to create a safe space for open conversations, ways to listen with empathy, and what to do next after a teen opens up about their struggles.
