During the 2024 State of the Province Address the Premier of the Free State, Mr Mxolisi
Dukwana, directed that the Free State will host the Premier’s Cup Tournament in a
quest to promote semi-professional and professional soccer in the province. The Free
State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR), in partnership with
the South African Football Association (SAFA) in the Free State, will be launching the
Premier’s Cup Tournament in Mangaung on Wednesday the 20th March 2024.
The Premier’s Cup Tournament is aimed at being a catalyst to help teams from the Free
State to get promotion to the National First Division. The tournament will also assist the
teams both financially and competitively to ensure the sustainability and longevity of our
local soccer clubs.
The first round judi bola of the tournament will commence on the 22nd to 30th March 2024. Prize
monies ranging from R25 000 to R200 000 are up for grabs and a standard R100 000
participation fee will be paid to all the participating teams. The 16 teams that will be
taking part in the finals will be confirmed at the end of the current season of the
provincial ABC Motsepe League.
It is expected that Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana, Executive Mayor of the Mangaung
Metropolitan Municipality, Mr Gregory Nthatisi and MEC Limakatso Mahasa will unveil
the tournament’s logo, trophy and playing attire during the launch.
“The main objective of the Premier’s Cup Tournament is to ensure a strong foundation
for professional and/or semi-professional soccer teams in the yalla shoot new Free State. We would
also like to create an enabling environment to promote talent identification of local
players to higher divisions. Considering the performance of our teams at the National
playoffs over the past years, the Federation is confident that this initiative will yield only
positive results, results that we as a Province will be proud of”, stated MEC Limakatso
Mahasa
