Leratswana gets a phase lift

The premier of the Free State, Ace Magashule, and his cabinet of MECs launched anotherOperation Hlasela initiative which is aimed at upgrading and developing the Leratswana township in Arlington.

Among the projects designed to improve the lives of the people in the township are the upgrading of a local clinic; the construction of paved roads; completion of seven unfinished RDP houses and a water pipe line that will help reduce the shortage of water in the area.

Leratswana has a single under-staffed clinic, which attends to roughly 150 patients per day.During his visit to the clinic, Magashule said the Nketoana Local Municipality, which sharesthe same building with the clinic, will have to vacate the premises and find an alternative piece of land to build new offices, in order to expand the clinic.

“We are going to meet with experts to check if the offices can be used for medical purposesbecause I believe that this will help reduce the overcrowding of patients.”

The process of employing two nurses and one administrative clerk to complement the existing staff was also concluded yesterday.

Meanwhile, the construction of the 8km paved road in Leratswana is currently underway and is expected to be completed in March 2013.

In addition, the MEC for Human Settlements and COGTA, Olly Mlamleli, has promised to ensure that the seven incomplete RDP house in the area, will be completed by the end of
November 2012.

“A contractor has already been appointed to complete the houses and the process is expected to be finished by end of November,” said Mlamleli.
