The Free State Tourism Authority Act (Act 4 of 2011) mandates the Free State Tourism Authority to achieve four important goals, namely;
- Marketing of tourism,
- Promotion of tourism; and
- Development of sustainable tourism within the province
- Promotion of major sports events to promote tourism
The former Phakisa Major Sport Events and Development Corporation was incorporated into the Free State Tourism Authority.
Mandate
The mandate provides a guide to both the mission of the organization as well as its strategic priorities and objectives. This mandate is summarized as follows;
Tourism Product Development
Facilitate and coordinate all the activities of partners and stakeholders in the development of the tourism products across the tourism sector within the Free State Province.
Tourism Marketing
Promote and market the Free State tourism and hospitality nationally, regionally and internationally.
Resorts and Reserves
Oversee the management and administration of resorts and nature reserves belonging to the Provincial Administration.
Major Cultural and Sporting Events
Attract, promote and host major national and international cultural and sporting events in the Province.
