Overview

The Free State provincial government established the legislative environment that has resulted in the creation of three provincial public entities.

Free State Development Corporation

The Free State Development Corporation (FDC) is a key contributor in the fight against poverty and unemployment as it seeks to establish partnerships with several organizations in an effort to attract investments and create sustainable job opportunities in the Free State. The former Free State Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) was incorporated into the FDC during 2010.

This provincial entity is a specialist economic development agency formed to offer the Free State people and potential investors a wide selection of services.

These services include:

  • SMME support – both financial (through loans) and non-financial support
  • Property development and management
  • Providing a platform for investment promotion into the Province
  • Providing export ready Free State companies with assistance in identifying new markets and export opportunities for their products.

Free State Gambling and Liquor Authority

The Free State Gambling and Liquor Authority was established in 2010 through the amalgamation of the former Free State Gambling and Racing Board and the Free State Liquor Board.

The mandate of FSGLA it is to regulate both the Gambling and Liquor industries through issuing of licenses, monitoring and regulating, and reporting to the responsible member on all gambling and Liquor matters.

Free State Tourism Authority

The scope and mandate of the Free State Tourism Authority were broadened with the incorporation of the Phakisa Major Sport Event and Development Corporation into the Authority during 2011.

The mandate of the FSTA includes tourism product development, tourism marketing, the management of provincially-owned resorts and reserves and the facilitation of major national and international cultural and sport events in the Free State.
